Code of Conduct – Players and Parents

Date of implementation: January 2026

Our Commitment

Mernda Netball Club is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where all  participants can enjoy sport, develop skills, and feel respected. Coaches play a vital role in setting  standards, modelling behaviour, and safeguarding children and young people.

Respectful Behaviours and Participation

All players and parents/carers agree to:

  • Treat all participants with respect, including players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators.
  • Promote fairness, inclusion, and good sportsmanship, regardless of the outcome of games or competitions.
  • Use respectful and appropriate language at all times.
  • Refrain from bullying, harassment, discrimination, or intimidation, including behaviour based on race, gender, ability, culture, sexuality, or religion.
  • Respect the decisions of officials and coaches, raising concerns through appropriate channels rather than during games or training.

Child Safety and Wellbeing

Players and parents/carers must:

  • Act in ways that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all children at Club activities.
  • Follow Club child safety policies and procedures, including reporting concerns.
  • Never engage in behaviour that places a child at risk, physically, emotionally, or psychologically.
  • Support appropriate boundaries between adults and children.
  • Encourage children to speak up if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Parents/carers are expected to:

  • Ensure children are supervised appropriately before and after activities.
  • Communicate relevant medical, wellbeing, or safety information to the Club.
  • Support injury management and return-to-play guidelines.

Communication

All players and parents/carers must:

  • Communicate respectfully with coaches, officials, and Club representatives.
  • Avoid private or inappropriate communication with children other than their own.
  • Use Club-approved communication channels where possible.
  • Follow the Club’s Social Media Policy, including respecting privacy and consent requirements for images and information.

Social Media and Privacy

Players and parents/carers agree to:

  • Respect privacy when using Social Media in connection with the Club.
  • Not post images or videos of children other than their own without consent.
  • Not post content that is offensive, defamatory, or harmful to individuals or the Club.
  • Promptly report any concerning online behaviour to the Club.

Use of Club Facilities and Property

All participants must:

  • Treat facilities, equipment, and property with care.
  • Follow safety instructions and directions provided by coaches or officials.
  • Behave in a way that reflects positively on Mernda Junior Netball Club.

Breaches of this Code of Conduct will be managed by Mernda Junior Netball Club Committee /

appointed Child Safety Officer and may result in:

  • Verbal or written warnings
  • Education or mediation
  • Suspension from activities or competitions
  • Further disciplinary action in line with Club policies
